COLUMBUS, Ohio – Stacey Gordon (Sr., Oshawa, Ontario) scored a match-high 29.5 points and Marisa Main (So., Louisville, Ky.) had 53 assists and 12 digs in Ohio State’s 3-1 (30-27, 30-21, 29-31, 30-21) win over Western Michigan (2-2) in the final round of the Temple Volleyball Classic. Gordon and Main earned All-Tournament honors as did Linsey Morningstar of Temple, Shaylen Jackson of Western Michigan and Katie Wright and Amy Beaver of North Carolina. Gordon recorded a match-high 28 kills adding an ace serve and an assist block. Western Michigan’s Ashley Schatzle had a team-high 18.5 points in the match from 17 kills, an ace serve and an assist block. Game one featured 13 ties and seven lead changes coming down a final tie at 27. A Gordon kill gave OSU a 28-27 lead and two Bronco errors closed out the game, 30-27 for the Buckeyes. Ohio State opened game two with two ace serves from Main and a kill by Maya Mapp (Sr., Washington, D.C.) to take a 3-0 lead. Leading 6-4, the Buckeyes would scored the next six points to open a 12-4 lead. OSU would expand the lead to 10 at 17-7. The Buckeyes held the lead and with a Danielle Meyer (Fr., Cincinnati, Ohio) kill, won the game, 30-21. In a close game three, Ohio State tied the game at 27 with a Main kill. The Broncos, with a kill and ace serve from Kathryn Babcock took a 29-27 lead and were serving game point. Kills by Gordon and Ami Stevens (Fr., Centerburg, Ohio) tied the game at 29. A kill from Western Michigan’s Tinesha Tierney and an OSU error ended the game at 31-29 in favor of the Broncos. Behind a 10-kill performance by OSU’s Gordon in game four, OSU won the game, 30-21, to capture the match, 3-1. Temple held an 8-7 lead before a Gordon kill and two Bronco errors gave Ohio State a 10-8 lead. The Buckeyes built a lead that saw OSU’s Gordon score the final two points from kills to close out the match. Ohio State hit .336 for the match to .193 for Western Michigan. The Buckeyes had a 67-55 margin in kills while the Broncos had the edge in ace serves, 9-6. WMU gave up 11 service errors to 10 for the Buckeyes. Defensively, Ohio State had a 46-41 advantage in digs while Bronco Katy Duffy collected a match-high 21. At the net, each squad had three team blocks with OSU’s Briana McCarthy (So., Beaver Dam, Wis.) and WMU’s Shaylen Jackson sharing match-high honors with two assist blocks each. OSU’s Main had 53 assists in the match and added 12 digs. Bronco Jessica Holly recorded 47 assists in the match. The undefeated Buckeyes will travel to Atlanta, Ga. next weekend to face Xavier Saturday, Sept. 11 and Georgia Tech Sunday, Sept. 12 in the Georgia Tech Invitational.
