COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Ohio State (10-16 overall, 4-14 Big Ten) women’s volleyball team closed out the home schedule with an 0-3 (25-30, 25-30, 27-30) loss to Wisconsin (19-9, 11-6) Friday night in St. John Arena. Heather Whalen (Sr., Kalamazoo, Mich.) scored a team-high 13 kills in the match with Amanda Miller (So., Littleton, Colo.) adding 12 and Stacey Gordon (Jr., Oshawa, Ontario) 10. Badger Sheila Shaw scored a match-high 14 kills for Wisconsin with Jill Odenthal adding 13 and Aubrey Meierotto 11.

Two Odenthal kills, an ace serve by Meierotto and two OSU errors opened a 5-0 lead for Wisconsin in game one. The Badgers held the lead, winning the game, 30-25. Wisconsin hit .286 for the game to .275 for Ohio State.

Tied at two in game two, kills by Miller and D’wan Shackleford (Sr., Newark, Ohio) and an ace serve by Jackie Schardt (So., Colorado Springs, Colo.) gave OSU a 5-2 lead. The Buckeyes held a 9-6 lead when two Meierotto kills, one from Odenthal and an OSU error gave Wisconsin a 10-9 lead. Tied at 12, a Shackleford-Whalen block, a Whalen kill and a Badger error gave Ohio State at 15-13 lead. With the Buckeyes leading, 20-15, Wisconsin rallied to outscore OSU, 7-2, to tie the game at 22. Tied at 24, an Odenthal kill, and OSU error and an ace serve by Odenthal gave Wisconsin a 27-24 lead. A Badger error cut the lead to 27-25, but kills by Lisa Zukowski, Meierotto and an Meierotto-Sheila Shaw block ended the game at 30-25. Wisconsin hit .350 for the game to OSU’s 300.

Tied at 10 in game three, Wisconsin took a 12-10 lead with a Shaw kill and an OSU error. The Buckeyes would close to within one point several times, the last at 28-27, but a Shaw kill and a block by Shaw and Morgan Shields ended the game at 30-27. The Badgers hit .381 for the game to .268 for Ohio State.

For the match, Wisconsin hit .342 to Ohio State’s .281. The Badgers had a 53-47 margin in kills and out served Ohio State, seven to four. Each squad had eight service errors. Defensively, Wisconsin had a 57-45 advantage in digs with Jill Maier collecting a match-high 17. At the net, each team recorded five team blocks. OSU’s Shackleford had a match-high four assist blocks. Setting for Wisconsin, Shields recorded 45 assists to OSU’s Briana McCarthy’s (Fr., Beaver Dam, Wis.), 33.

Ohio State will close out the season on the road next week. The Buckeyes face Iowa at 8 p.m. ET, Friday, Nov. 28 in Iowa City. OSU then plays at No. 22 Minnesota at 8 p.m., Saturday, Nov. 29 in Minneapolis. That match will be delayed telecast by ESPN2 at 2 p.m., Sunday, Nov. 30
