MILWAUKEE, Wis. – The No. 59-ranked Ohio State women’s tennis team captured a big upset over No. 35-ranked Marquette (7-2) in Milwaukee, Wis. today. The victory gave the Buckeyes a record of 3-0 in dual action this season. Ohio State doubles teams started the day well by capturing all three doubles points. The No 7-ranked team of Briana Harris (So., Bradenton, Fla.) and Kristy Dascoli (So., Bradenton, Fla.) defeated Ana and Sara Fernandez in a tough 9-8 match to maintain their 3-0 record at the No. 1 spot. Kadri Kanepi (Sr., Haupslau, Estonia) and partner Claudia Castro (Fr., Onalaska, Wis.) won at the No. 3 spot over Christine DiMasi and Julia Sapozhnikova (9-8).

The Buckeyes struggled at the top two spots in singles with Dascoli and Harris both losing their matches in three-sets, however, Michelle Matko (Fr., Aurora, Ill.) dominated Sapozhnikova (6-4, 6-1) and Monica Rincon (Fr., Lapeer, Mich.) defeated Sara Fernandez (6-1, 6-4) to win the match.

The Buckeyes (3-0) will take on No. 26-ranked Tennessee at the Jesse Owens West Recreation Center on Sun., Jan. 31 at 10 am.
