COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Ohio State women’s tennis team won its fourth Big Ten match of the season, as it beat conference foe Michigan State, 5-2, Sunday at the Indoor Tennis Center in East Lansing, Mich. The Buckeyes, ranked No. 36, improve to 16-3 overall and 4-2 in the Big Ten Conference. No. 74-ranked MSU moves to 11-8 and 3-4 overall.

The Buckeyes swept the doubles matches to earn the doubles point. Ohio State’s No. 43-ranked tandem of Monica Rincon (Sr., Lapeer, Mich./West) and Meaghan Colville (So., Toronto, Ontario/Western Michigan) won at No. 1, defeating Mandy Caldemeyer and Keri Thompson, 8-3. At No. 2, Erica Fisk (So., Indianapolis, Ind./Pike) and Sadhaf Pervez (Jr., Warren, N.H./Watchung Hills) won a close match over Dora Vastag and Caroline Lay, 8-6. Michelle Matko (Jr., Aurora, Ill./Aurora West) and Lindsay Williams (So., Beverly Hills, Mich./Birmingham Groves) completed the Buckeye sweep, winning 8-4 over sa Lidn and Trine Lise Juliussen.

In singles, Ohio State won four-of-six matches to clinch the victory. Rincon easily topped Vastag in straight sets, 6-1, 6-1. Rincon now is just two wins away from the 100th of her Buckeye career. Matko extended her winning streak to eight, topping the Spartans’ Caldemeyer in straight sets at No. 4. At No. 5, Williams won her second consecutive three-set match. Williams beat MSU’s Thompson, 7-6 (2), 2-6, 6-2. At No. 2, Fisk rebounded after losing a three-set match to Michigan yesterday to win in three sets over MSU’s Lidn, 6-4, 4-6, 7-5, and post OSU’s final win. The Buckeyes have three road matches this week. The squad travels to Lexington, Ky., to face No. 15 Kentucky at 2 p.m. Wednesday. Ohio Sate then has two conference matches, playing at No. 47 Purdue at 2 p.m. Saturday and at No. 35 Indiana at 10 a.m. Sunday.
