COLUMBUS, Ohio – Claudia Castro (So., Dublin, Ohio) claimed the Flight #3 title to lead the Ohio State women’s tennis team at the Hoosier Classic Invitational (Friday through Sunday) in Bloomington, Ind.%^$ %^$

Freshman Sadhaf Pervez (Warren, N.J.) reached the finals in Flight #2 singles before falling to Kansas State’s Alena Jecminkova, 6-2, 6-1, in the final match. Monica Rincon (So., Lapeer, Mich.) placed third in Flight #1 singles. In round robin action, Taryn Bowen (Fr., Columbus, Ohio) and Katherine Martin (Fr., Kennewick, Wash.) each won two of three matches.%^$

The doubles duo of Castro and Rincon advanced to the final match in Flight #1, but were defeated by Indiana’s Anderson and Blanch, 8-2. Pervez and Laura Maloney (Jr., Barrington, Ill.) lost in the semifinals of Flight #1 doubles to eventual champion Anderson and Blanch of Indiana.%^$

Buckeyes Michelle Matko (So., Aurora, Ill.) and Briana Harris (Jr., Bradenton, Fla.) both lost in the first round of prequalifying at the ITA Riviera Women’s All-American Championships in Los Angeles on Saturday. Matko was defeated by California’s Marisa Yang, 6-3, 6-2, while Harris fell to Anouk Sinnige of Pacific in three sets. %^$

The Buckeyes will next compete when they play host to the top players in the region at the ITA Midwest Regional Nov. 3-8 at the Racquet Club of Columbus.%^$
