%^$COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Ohio State women’s tennis team saw its program-record 14-match home winning streak come to an end, as it fell to Big Ten Conference foe and No. 14-ranked Northwestern, 7-0, Sunday at Jesse Owens West Recreation Center.%^$

%^$No. 35-ranked Ohio State drops to 19-5 overall and 7-3 in the Big Ten. The Buckeyes were 14-1 at home this season, setting the program record for home wins. The Wildcats improve to 18-5 and will be the No. 1 seed in the Big Ten tournament with a perfect 10-0 record in conference play.%^$

%^$Ohio State returns to action next weekend at the 2002 Big Ten Tournament in Bloomington, Ind. The Buckeyes have secured at least a No. 3 seed with a 7-3 record in Big Ten play. The tournament will be held Thursday through Sunday at the Varsity Tennis Courts on the IU campus.%^$

%^$Ohio State won at the No. 3 doubles spot but fell in the other two matches, as Northwestern opened the match by winning the doubles point. At No. 3, the Buckeye duo of Michelle Matko (Jr., Aurora, Ill./Aurora West) and Lindsay Williams (So., Beverly Hills, Mich./Birmingham Groves) topped NU’s Andrea Yung and Ruth Barnes, 8-4. At No. 1, OSU’s No. 49-ranked duo of Monica Rincon (Sr., Lapeer, Mich./West) and Meaghan Colville (So., Toronto, Ontario/Western Michigan) fell to the No. 35 team of Marine Piriou and Jessica Rush, 8-3. At No. 2, the Buckeye tandem of Erica Fisk (So., Indianapolis, Ind./Pike) and Sadhaf Pervez (Jr., Warren, N.J./Watchung Hills) lost to No. 30-ranked Lia Jackson and Simona Petrutiu, 8-6.%^$

%^$The Wildcats swept Ohio State in singles to earn their 10th Big Ten victory of the season, with two matches going to three sets. At No. 5, Williams lost her only Big Ten match of the season, as she fell to Yung in a match tiebreaker, 3-6, 6-3 (10-5). Williams ends the Big Ten season a team-best 9-1 in singles. After losing the first set at No. 3 to Rush, Pervez fought back to force the match tiebreaker, but Rush prevailed, 10-6.%^$
