COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Ohio State women’s tennis team fell to No. 29 Louisiana State, 5-2, in the first round of the NCAA Tournament at the Raulphs-Straus Tennis Center in Malibu, Calif. The No. 49 Buckeyes end their season with a 14-11 overall record and a 6-4 mark in the Big Ten. Louisiana State improves to 15-10 for the season and competes against No. 9 Pepperdine in the second round on Sunday at noon.

%^$The Lady Tigers came out strong, posting wins in the top two singles positions. Kristy Dascoli (So., Bradenton, Fla.) lost to Bruna Colosio, 6-4, 6-3 and Michelle Matko (Fr., Aurora, Ill.) fell to Ana Paula Mores, 6-4, 6-1, at the No. 2 singles spot.%^$ %^$The Buckeyes battled back with Briana Harris (So., Bradenton, Fla.) defeating LSUs Fernanda Tsucamoto in an exciting three-set match, 6-2, 4-6, 6-4. However, Mandy Rice defeated Claudia Castro (Fr., Onalaska, Wis.), 6-3, 6-4 and Laura Maloney (So., Barrington, Ill.) would also fall at the No. 6 singles spot, to give the Lady Tigers a 3-1 lead.

%^$Knowing that for the Buckeyes to compete in doubles, the squad would need to post another win in singles, Monica Rincon (Lapeer, Mich.) stepped up to bring the Buckeyes within two points.

%^$Losing the first set to Tami Botts, 6-2, Rincon dominated the second, winning 6-1. Botts came back in the third, leading 5-3, however, Rincon evened the score 5-5. Both would break each others serves to go into the tiebreaker. Again Rincon would dominate to win the tiebreaker, 7-6 (7-1).

%^$Yet, the LSUs doubles teams battle hard to notch the 5-2 win and advance to the second round of the NCAA Tournament. Colosio and Mores upset No. 17 ranked Dascoli and Harris, 8-5, to clinch the Lady Tigers victory.

%^$Dascoli and Harris will still head to the NCAA Championships in Gainesville, Fla. on May 24-28. Dascoli, for the second year in a row, will compete in the 64-player singles competition and with her doubles partner Harris will also compete in the doubles competition.%^$
