COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Ohio State women’s soccer team (2-2, 0-0 Big Ten) defeated the Louisville Cardinals by a 1-0 count Saturday night at the University of Louisville’s Cardinal Park in Louisville, Ky. With the win the Buckeyes evened their record to 2-2.
After a defensive battle throughout, Ohio State found the back of the net in the 74th minute when midfielder Danielle Dietrich (Jr., Cincinnati, Ohio) gathered her own rebound off a Paige Harrison (Centerville, Ohio) corner kick and buried a shot past Louisville goalkeeper Tiffany Hanson for the 1-0 advantage. The goal was Dietrich’s third in four games this season, matching her career-high for goals set in 2003. Dietrich finished the evening with a game-high six shots including three on goal. The assist was credited to Harrison.
Ohio State finished the game with a 14-11 shot advantage, including a 6-3 ledger in corner kicks and a 6-5 edge in shots on goal.
Buckeye goalkeeper Emily Haynam (Sr., Westerville, Ohio) improved to 1-1 on the year with four saves in the Buckeye victory.
“We came out flat in the first half but regrouped in the second and created some scoring opportunities,” Lori Walker, head coach said. “I give a lot of credit to Louisville, they played tough and challenged us all game. I think we can take some of the experiences gained from tonight’s win and use them to our advantage for the rest of this season.”
The Buckeyes return to action at 7:30 p.m. Friday against the LSU Tigers in the Buckeye Classic at Jesse Owens Memorial Stadium in Columbus, Ohio.
