COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Ohio State women’s soccer team reported to preseason camp Tuesday morning looking to build off a strong showing in 2009 that included a 14-4-2 record, second-place finish in the Big Ten and an NCAA tournament appearance.

The Buckeyes return 20 letterwinners and welcome seven incoming freshmen to head coach Lori Walker’s squad. Walker, now in her 14th season at the helm, was named Great Lakes Region Coach of the Year in 2009. Defender Cassie Dickerson was named a team captain for the third consecutive year and is joined by first-year captains Lauren Beachy and Danielle Scoliere.

In addition to the seven freshmen who have arrived in Columbus, the Buckeyes return a redshirt freshman, seven sophomores, nine juniors and five seniors. Eighty-five percent of the scoring is back from last season as is the entire starting back line, which played a huge role in the Buckeyes giving up just 13 goals, down from 39 two seasons ago.

The schedule includes 10 home matches and nine teams that made the 2009 NCAA tournament. Non-conference foes Wisconsin-Milwaukee, Marquette, and West Virginia visit Columbus while the Buckeyes travel to Dayton and Arizona State. In conference, Ohio State hosts defending Big Ten champion Penn State, Wisconsin and Michigan State while traveling to Purdue.

After a scrimmage against Kentucky at 6 p.m. Aug. 14, the Buckeyes open regular-season play at home against Wisconsin-Milwaukee at 7:30 p.m. Aug. 20. Once again in 2010, admission to Ohio State home soccer matches is free to all.
