Columbus, Ohio – The Ohio State women’s lacrosse team defeated the Ohio University Bobcats on Saturday afternoon, 23-3. Ohio State’s record moves to 7-4, while the Bobcats fall to 1-3.
Ohio State got the game off to a quick start by scoring just 52 seconds into the game. The Buckeyes then went on a scoring tear, scoring the first 15 goals. The Buckeyes took a 19-1 edge into halftime. The 19 goals scored in the first half sets a new record for goals scored in a half. The Previous record was 15 against Denison University.
Lauren Cochran (Fr., Coatesville, Pa.) led the Buckeye scoring attack with four goals and one assist. Four other Buckeyes contributed with three goals each; Kris Cash (Fr., Delaware, Ohio), Gill Grim (Jr., Shaker Heights, Ohio), Megan Mirick (Fr., Burke, Va.) and Kristin Jeschke (Fr., Ellicott City, Md.). Jeschke led the Buckeyes in total points with eight, off of three goals and five assists.
The victory over the Bobcats gave head coach Sue Stimmel her 100th career victory; her career record stands at 100-49.
Many of Ohio State’s single game records were broken in the game against the Bobcats. The Buckeyes broke the record for most goals scored in a game with 23. The previous record was 22 set back in 1997 against Earlham. They broke the record for most assists in a game with 13. The previous record was 12 set back in 1996 against Earlham. Ohio State broke the record for most points in a game with 36. The previous record was 31 set back in 1997 against Mercyhurst. The Buckeyes also tied the record for largest margin of victory, winning by 20.
Brooke Bowersock led the Bobcats with two goals.
The Buckeyes will be back in action on Friday and Sunday. The Buckeyes will travel to Pennsylvania to play Penn State and Bucknell.
