Columbus, Ohio – The Ohio State women’s lacrosse team easily defeated the Denver Pioneers Sunday afternoon, 26-10. The Pioneers end their season with a 7-9 record, while the Buckeyes finish the 1999 season with a 10-5 record, the first winning season in the four year history of women’s lacrosse.

%^$The Buckeyes got out of the gate quickly scoring just 23 seconds into the game. Denver kept it close early in the first half, but Ohio State broke away with a 13-7 lead at the half. Ohio State took absolute control in the second half outscoring the Pioneers 13-3. The 26 goals in this game breaks the record for goals scored in a game. The previous record was set April 10 when the Buckeyes scored 23 goals against Ohio University.

%^$Sophomore Erin Andersen (Huntington, N.Y.) and freshman Megan Mirick (Burke, Va.) each scored six goals to lead the Buckeyes. Their six goals ties the record for goals scored in a game by an individual. Celeste Cianfrani (So., Telford, Pa.) also played a big role in the offense by scoring 5 goals. Megan Barnett (Fr., Charlottesville, Va.) was fantastic in the cage with 11 saves.

%^$Ohio State’s three seniors went out on a high note. Mara Simpson (Worthington, Ohio) scored four goals and added one assist. Laurie Rybak (Worthington, Ohio) also finished her great career with three goals and three assists. Senior goalie Jamie Bauer (Powell, Ohio) finished her career in the cage with four saves. Simpson and Rybak leave Ohio State number one and two in career goals scored, Simpson with 84 goals and Rybak with 69 goals.
