COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Ohio State (5-10 overall, 3-3 American Lacrosse Conference) women’s lacrosse team was defeated by No. 1-ranked Northwestern, 18-5, Thursday at the Thomas Athletic Complex in Evanston, Ill. The win ends the Wildcats’ regular season with a perfect 17-0 record and a 6-0 ledger in ALC play to win the outright title. Ashley Evans led OSU with two goals and points, while NU’s Lindsey Munday had a team-best seven points on five goals and two assists and three other Wildcats had six points. The game was televised live on College Sports Television (CSTV).

Ohio State will end the regular season when it plays at Notre Dame at noon EDT Saturday on a game televised live by CSTV.

The Buckeyes got on the board first on a goal by Ashley Evans (Sr., Ellicott City, Md.) 6:56 into the first half. Northwestern tied the game on a free-position shot by Aly Josephs at 10:11 that started a 13-goal run. Following Josephs’ goal, the Wildcats scored 10 goals to close out the first half and go into the lockerroom with an 11-1 lead. Kristen Kjellman and Josephs led NU with three goals each in the first half, while Sarah Albrecht had three assists.

Northwestern scored the first two goals of the second half (at :50 and 2:35) before Kelly Kremer (Fr., Kennett Square, Pa.) scored an unassisted goal at 4:40 to stop the Wildcat run. Regina Oliver (Sr., Pottstown, Pa.) added a goal at 7:50. Following the Buckeyes’ goals, NU scored the next five, with three goals and an assist from Lindsey Munday. OSU closed out the scoring with goals from Kelyn Laws (So., Ellicott City, Md.), assisted by Brandie Williams (Sr., Hatboro, Pa.), and Evans. Northwestern outshot Ohio State, 30-17. For the Buckeyes, Kim Hastings (Jr., Sewickley, Pa.) started the game and made 12 saves and allowed 15 goals in 46 minutes. Joy DeMarco (So., Hudson, Ohio) played 14 minutes, making no saves and giving up three scores. NU’s Ashley Gersuk played 42 minutes and allowed three goals and made four saves. Abby Banger saw 18 minutes of action, giving up two goals and making three stops.
