COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Ohio State (5-9 overall, 3-2 American Lacrosse Conference) women’s lacrosse team could not overcome a six-goal run by 20th-ranked Stanford (11-5) as the Cardinal won, 13-7, Saturday afternoon in Jesse Owens Memorial Stadium. OSU’s Regina Oliver (Sr., Pottstown, Pa.) and Lindsay Weiner (So., Eldersburg, Md.) scored two goals each for the Buckeyes and Kristen Slahor (Fr., Ellicott City, Md.) added four assists in the game. Cardinal Sarah Bach posted four goals for Stanford and Megan Burker added three goals and an assist in the win.

Ohio State opened the scoring with a Weiner goal with 1:28 gone in the game on an assist from Slahor. Oliver made it 2-0 with a score at 2:11. Stanford scored a 2:41 with a Liz Piselli goal, assisted by Kelsey Twist. Megan McClain tied the game at two on a free position shot at 4:17. The Cardinal took a 3-2 lead at 8:33 with a goal from Piselli. OSU tied the game at three with a Molly Gilbert (Fr., Baltimore, Md.) goal, assisted by Slahor at 8:54. Bach’s goal at 15:07 gave Stanford a 4-3 lead. The Buckeye tied the game at four with a Weiner goal at 17:20, assisted by Slahor. Stanford took the lead, at 5-4, for good at 21:17 with a Burker goal. The Cardinal made it 6-4 with a goal from Nina Pantano at 22:40, assisted by Burker to end the first half scoring.

Stanford’s Bach scored goals at 30:46 and 32:06 of the second half to open an 8-4 Cardinal lead. McClain scored at 32:39 with an assist from Ariana Parasco and Bach’s fourth goal at 33:27 gave Stanford a 10-4 lead. The Buckeyes stopped the six-goal run by Stanford at 39:03 on an Oliver goal. Kristen Hannon (Fr., Sykesville, Md.) scored at 47:41, assisted by Slahor, to cut the margin to four at 10-6. Stanford responded with a free position score by Daphne Patterson at 51:17 and two goals by Burker at 43:02 and 55:06 to take the Cardinal lead to 13-6. OSU’s Brandie Williams (Sr., Hatboro, Pa.) scored at 58:04 to make the final score, 13-7.

In goal for Stanford, Laura Shane had 13 saves and gave up seven goals in playing 58:04. Kate Horowitz closed out the game for the Cardinal making two saves in the final 1:56. OSU’s Kim Hastings (Jr., Sewickley, Pa.) gave up nine goals while making four saves in playing 32:39. Joy DeMarco (So., Hudson, Ohio) finished the game with eight saves and giving up four goals while playing 27:21.

Ohio State closes out the regular season with two road matches next week. OSU faces top-ranked Northwestern (15-0, 4-0) Thursday at 4 p.m. CT. This match will be delayed telecast by CSTV at 8 p.m. ET Thursday. OSU then travels to face Notre Dame (3-10) Saturday at Noon CT. The Notre Dame match will be carried live by CSTV.
