COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Ohio State (4-12 overall, 1-2 American Lacrosse Conference) women’s lacrosse team ended the season with a 14-9 victory against Rutgers (7-7) Sunday afternoon in the Jesse Owens Memorial Stadium. OSU’s KC Carter (Sr., Birchrunville, Pa.) and Kelyn Laws (Jr., Ellicott City, Md.) scored three goals each for the Buckeyes while Katie Batiuk collected a team-high three goals for the Scarlet Knights.

Ohio State opened the game with an Amanda Shimp (So., Endicott, N.Y.) goal with 1:15 gone in the game. Carter made it 2-0 with a goal at 5:14. Jessica Patane (So., Farmingdale, N.Y.) scored next, at 8:07, with an assist from Kristen Hannon (So., Sykesville, Md.). The Buckeyes took a 4-0 lead with a Lindsay Weiner (Jr., Eldersburg, Md.) goal at 8:34, assisted by Kristen Slahor (So., Ellicott City, Md.). Rutgers, with a free position goal by Michelle Poole made it 4-1 at 9:05. The Scarlet Knights, at 11:32, scored a free position goal by Batiuk. A Kathryn Lawrence goal, assisted by Batiuk at 18:12 made it 4-3, OSU. Rutgers, with a goal by Poole, tied the game at four at 20:11. Weiner regained the lead for OSU with a free position goal at 20:36. At 22:21, a free position goal by Andrea Fischer (Sr., Cleveland Heights, Ohio) made it 6-4. Laws scored unassisted at 23:33 and Carter’s second goal at 28:13, assisted by Weiner, closed out the half with Ohio State leading, 8-4. The Buckeyes expanded the lead to six (10-4) with goals by Patane at 30:29 with a Hannon assist and a Laws’ goal at 35:41. Batiuk scored for Rutgers on a free position shot at 36:57 but a Slahor goal at 39:37 made it 11-5. Rutgers, with goals by Batiuk at 39:45 and Anne Marchitello at 40:19 cut the OSU lead to four at 11-7. Carter scored her third goal at 44:44 with a Patane assist and Laws collected her third goal at 50:34 to take the lead to six at 13-7. Scarlet Knight Nina Frankoski, with an assist from Lawrence at 56:53 and a free position goal by Frankoski at 57:50 cut the Buckeye lead to four at 13-9. Fischer recorded her second goal of the game at 58:44 on a Slahor assist to close out the scoring for a 14-9 Ohio State victory.

In goal for Ohio State, Kristen Gilwee (Fr., Hunt Valley, Md.) played the majority of the game for the win (4-6), making 11 saves and giving up eight goals. Kim Hastings (Sr., Sewickley, Pa.) played the final 3:07, making one save and giving up a goal. Katherine Parker started the game for Rutgers and had five saves while giving up eight goals in the loss (1-2). Sandra Abel played the second half for the Scarlet Knights making three saves and giving up six goals.

Eight Buckeyes closed out their careers with the victory. They include Carter, Weiner, Fischer, Hastings, Mindy Kittle (Sr., Hockessin, Del.), Alicia McClure (Sr., Hatboro, Pa.), Alicia Meredith (Sr., Prospect, Ky.) and Emily Rosen (Sr., Baltimore, Md.).
