COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Ohio State (1-8 overall) women’s lacrosse team ended an eight-game losing streak with a 16-5 victory over Davidson (6-5) Sunday afternoon in the Jesse Owens Memorial Stadium. OSU’s Jessica Patane (So., Farmingdale, N.Y.) and KC Carter (Sr., Birchrunville, Pa.) had three goals each with Kristen Slahor (So., Ellicott City, Md.) adding two. Davidson’s Emily Palmer had a team-high two goals for the Wildcats.

Natale Miller (Jr., West Chester, Pa.) opened the scoring for Ohio State with 3:09 gone in the first half on an assist by Slahor. Carter scored at 4:59 and Slahor at 5:26 to give OSU a 3-0 lead. Davidson’s Sarah Walter put the Wildcats on the board with a score at 6:36. Palmer made it 3-2 at 10:47, assisted by Eloise Grose. The Buckeyes scored at 15:46 with a Patane goal, assisted by Carter. Ohio State took the lead to 6-2 with goals by Danielle Gibson (Jr., Springfield, Pa.) at 16:20 and by Kelly Kremer (So., Kennett Square, Pa.) at 18:16. Palmer’s second goal for Davidson at 20:34 made it 6-3, OSU. Patane’s second goal of the game at 21:27, off a Kristen Hannon (So., Sykesville, Md.) assist, made it 7-3. Andrea Fischer (Sr., Cleveland Heights, Ohio) scored at 25:29 and Patane added her third goal at 26:55, both assisted by Kelyn Laws (Jr., Ellicott City, Md.), to close out the half with Ohio State leading, 9-3. Ohio State scored seven straight goals to open the second half. Lindsay Weiner (Jr., Eldersburg, Md.) opened the half with a score at 31:52, assisted by Slahor. Kendall Gysin (Fr., Noblesville, Ind.) made it 11-3 with a score at 32:57. Carter added her second goal of the game at 37:37 and Slahor picked up her second score at 39:55 with an assist from Bethany Carey (So., Eldersburg, Md.), making the score 13-3. Amanda Shimp (So., Endicott, N.Y.) continued the run with a goal at 40:48. Carter collected her third goal of the game at 42:05, assisted by Slahor. The Buckeyes closed out their scoring at 45:37 with a goal by Keri Yourick (Fr., Castle Rock, Colo.) to lead 16-3. Davidson, with a free position shot by Emily Diefendorf at 55:05 and a Callie Seymour goal, assisted by Missy Gilbert at 56:38 closed out the scoring for the 16-5 Ohio State victory.

Kristen Gilwee (Fr., Hunt Valley, Md.) had the win for Ohio State, playing 40:05 and making two saves while giving up three goals. Kim Hastings (Sr., Sewickley, Pa.) played the final 19:55 for the Buckeyes, making two saves and giving up two goals. Davidson’s Leslie Smith suffered the loss in the contest. She played 45:23, making 11 saves while giving up nine goals. Laura Johnson started the second half for the Wildcats, playing 14:37, before Smith’s return. Johnson recorded four saves and gave up seven goals.

Ohio State continues play at home Wednesday afternoon at 4 p.m. when they host 10th-ranked Notre Dame (9-1) at Jesse Owens Memorial Stadium. The Buckeyes then play Sunday at 1 p.m. at Ohio (3-7).
