COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Ohio State (6-10 overall) women’s lacrosse team closed out the 2005 season with a 14-10 win over Notre Dame (3-12) Saturday in a game carried live by CSTV. Regina Oliver (Sr., Pottstown, Pa.) and Kelly Kremer (Fr., Kennett Square, Pa.) scored three goals each for the Buckeyes with Ashley Evans (Sr., Ellicott City, Md.) and Natale Miller (So., Birmingham, Pa.) adding two each. OSU’s Kristen Slahor (Fr., Ellicott City, Md.) contributed a career-high five assists in the game. For Notre Dame, Crysti Foote and Caitlin McKinney had three goals each for the Irish with Jacie Bowers and Lindsay Shaffer adding two each.

Note Dame took the early 1-0 lead with a Foote goal just 38 seconds into the contest. Buckeye goals by Evans (1:30) and Kremer (2:35), assisted by Evans, gave OSU a 2-1 lead. The Irish scored four straight goals with McKinney scoring at 3:19 followed by Jackie Bowers at 10:35, assisted by Foote, to take a 3-2 margin. McKinney scored at 13:35 and Foote added her second goal on a free position shot at 14:10 to open a 5-2 lead. OSU responded with a three-goal run starting at 16:02 by Miller. Scored by Oliver (22:23) and Brandie Williams (Sr., Hatboro, Pa.) at 22:56 tied the game at five on a free position shot. The Irish took a 6-5 lead with McKinney’s third goal, assisted by Mary Carpenter, at 27:13. The Buckeyes responded with a free position goal by Miller at 29:42 to tie the game at six going into halftime.

The Buckeyes opened the second half with a five goal run starting at 33:38 with an Oliver goal. At 37:26, Oliver scored against, assisted by Slahor. Molly Gilbert (Fr., Baltimore, Md.), on a Slahor assist at 41:29 made it 9-6, OSU. Back-to-back goals by Kremer, both assisted by Slahor at 43:26 and 44:26 gave Ohio State an 11-6 lead. The Irish stopped the Buckeye scoring run at 46:16 with a Shaffer goal on a free position shot. At 49:02 Evans countered with a goal to put the lead at five. Notre Dame responded with a Foote goal at 52:12 and a Shaffer goal, assisted by McKinney, at 55:10 to cut the margin to three at 12-9. The Buckeyes took the lead back to five with a Slahor goal at 55:20 and Andrea Fischer’s (Jr., Cleveland Heights, Ohio) goal at 57:37 on Slahor’s fifth assist. The Irish closed out the scoring with a Bowers goal at 59:17 for the final 14-10 margin. In goal, OSU’s Kim Hastings (Jr., Sewickley, Pa.) took the win (6-10) making nine saves in the game. Notre Dame’s Carol Dixon suffered the loss (3-12) while making seven saves.
