COLUMBUS, Ohio – Ohio State women’s lacrosse assistant coach Regina Oliver is one of 24 athletes that has been named to the U.S. Women’s Elite Team. The team was selected by the 10-person US Lacrosse Women’s Division National Teams Selection Committee following a two-day tryout at the University of Maryland-Baltimore County.

Oliver is in her second year as an assistant coach for the Ohio State women’s lacrosse team after an outstanding four-year career with the Buckeyes. A three-time All-American and a four-time first-team all-conference selection in the American Lacrosse Conference, she is Ohio State’s all-time career leader in ground balls (236) and caused turnovers (201) and ranked second in draw controls with 121. Oliver ranks third in career points with 166, second in goals with 126 and sixth in assists with 41.

Previously Oliver has trained and played with the 2004-05 and the 2005-06 U.S. Women’s Lacrosse Developmental Team.

The 24-player Elite team is comprised of individuals who have demonstrated their exceptional abilities as lacrosse players with regards to skill, but also through leadership and sportsmanship. The Elite squad is designed to prepare and train the best players in the country to compete against the best collegiate and international teams in the world.

The U.S. Elite team has two weekends of competition in the upcoming months. The team will play top college programs during the Stars and Stripes Weekend Sept. 30-Oct. 1 in Northern Virginia and during the Champions Challenge Weekend Jan. 27-28, 2007, in Orlando, Fla.
