COLUMBUS, Ohio – Sue Stimmel, head coach of the Ohio State women’s lacrosse team, announced the addition of Makenna Borg to the incoming class of student-athletes for the 2010-11 campaign. Borg, a native of Eden Prairie, Minn., becomes the second lacrosse Buckeye to hail from the Gopher State, joining current freshman Rachel Blue.
Borg becomes the eighth member of the 2010 class, joining Kelly Becker, Katie Chase, Cara Facchina, Heather Gravinese, Tayler Kuzma, Morgan Obendorfer and Kate Sullivan as the newest Buckeyes.
A three-year varsity lacrosse athlete, Borg led Eden Prairie High School to the state championship as a junior last season, earning first team all-state and all-conference honors along the way. The former state rookie of the year will captain the squad for her senior campaign in 2010. Also a standout tennis player, Borg was the 2009 state champion in doubles and an all-conference selection. In the classroom, she is an honor roll student and recipient of the honors diploma.
The current edition of the women’s lacrosse squad opens the 2010 season with a Feb. 6 exhibition game against Robert Morris in Columbus before beginning the regular season Feb. 14 at William & Mary. The Buckeyes’ home opener is slated for the following week vs. American Feb. 20.
