COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Ohio State women’s ice hockey team (10-20-3, 7-13-3 WCHA) tied the Bemidji State Beavers (9-15-7, 5-12-6 WCHA), 3-3, in overtime Friday at OSU Ice Arena in Columbus, Ohio. The game marks the second time the Buckeyes and Beavers have tied this season. OSU leads BSU 7-6-3 in the all-time series.

Ohio State and Bemidji State will face off at 4:05 p.m. Saturday in the team’s last regular-season game at OSU Ice Arena in Columbus, Ohio. The game will determine the Buckeyes’ positioning in the WCHA Final Five. OSU is fourth in the WCHA and has a one-point lead over Bemidji State.

Ohio State’s Emma Laaksonen (Jr., Espoo, Finland/Team Finland/Blues Espoo) scored a 4-on-4 goal at 8:14 in the first stanza. The goal was assisted by freshmen Katie Sershen (Fr., Woodbury, Minn./Minnesota Thoroughbreds), who recorded her first assist, and Jana Harrigan (Fr., Burlington, Ontario/Mississauga Jr. Chiefs). Bemidji State’s Keri McEwen soon followed with a goal at 10:11. OSU’s Shana Frost (Sr., Frankford, Ontario/Beatrice North York Aeros) gave OSU the lead at 18:35 when she scored on an assist from Jaclyn Haines (So., Rossland, British Columbia/Team Pacific/Team British Columbia). At the end of the first period, Ohio State led 13-3 in shots.

Buckeye sophomore Jeni Creary (So., Shell Lake, Saskatchewan/Notre Dame) started the second period with a power-play goal at 4:07. Creary scored on the rebound of a rebounded shot from Jennifer Desson (So., Niagara Falls, Ontario/ St. Paul’s/Stoney Creek Jr. Sabres). Emily Hudak (Sr., Marblehead, Mass./Cushing) also assisted on the goal. Bemidji State’s Amber Fryland retaliated with two goals at 6:07 and 19:16, respectively, to tie the game at three. The Buckeyes outshot the Beavers 16-6 in the period. Ohio State battled Bemidji State in the third. OSU had 14 shots on goal, but could not get the puck past BSU’s goalie. The Beavers tallied seven shots.

In overtime, the Buckeyes and the Beavers were scoreless. OSU outshot BSU 2-0.

Ohio State outshot Bemidji State, 45-16, in the game. OSU held BSU scoreless on two power-play opportunities. The Buckeyes were 1-for-4 on the power play.

Ohio State goalkeeper April Stojak (Sr., Kent, Ohio/Shattuck-St. Mary’s) recorded 13 saves in 65:00 minutes of play. Bemidji State’s Jill Luebke recorded 42 saves in 65:00 minutes.
