COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Ohio State women’s ice hockey team (1-5-0 overall, 1-5-0 WCHA) fell to the No. 6 Wisconsin Badgers (5-3-0, 1-3-0 WCHA), 3-1, Sunday afternoon at the Kohl Center in Madison, Wis. The Buckeyes were unable to sweep the Badgers in the two-game series. OSU defeated UW Saturday, 3-2, only the second win for the Buckeyes against Wisconsin. The first was March 4, 2000.

Wisconsin scored the first goal of the game by Meghan Hunter as she tipped in a shot by Bobbi-Jo Slusar from the top of the circle at 4:05. Ohio State attempted a to get on the scoreboard as it tallied eight shots to Wisconsin’s seven during the first period.

UW’s offense stepped it up in the second stanza as the Badgers posted 14 shots to the Buckeyes’ four. The Badgers posted their second goal of the game by Jackie Friesen, assisted by Hunter at 11:59. At the end of the period, Wisconsin led 2-0 on the scoreboard and 21-12 in shots.

Ohio State came out strong attempting to come back in the third period. OSU junior captain Meaghan Mulvaney (Jr., Sylvania, Ohio) scored the Buckeyes’ first goal of the game on a power play as she tipped in a shot from senior captain Erin O’Grady (Sr., London, Ontario) at 3:11. Tessa Bonhomme (Fr., Sudbury, Ontario) also assisted the goal. Then, the Buckeyes received two power-play opportunities gaining several quality shots but they were unsuccessful in scoring. The Badgers secured their victory with a goal by Amy Vermeulen at 18:35. In an effort to tie the game OSU pulled its goalie with 41 seconds remaining. The Buckeyes soon followed with a timeout to regroup the squad, but they could not get past the Badgers.

OSU goaltender Melissa Glaser (Jr., Rockford, Ill.) recorded 29 saves and allowed three goals in 59:19 minutes of action. UW goalie Christine Dufour tallied 23 saves, allowing one goals in 60:00 minutes of play.

The Badgers outshot the Buckeyes 32-24. Ohio State held Wisconsin scoreless on all four the power-play chances. The Buckeyes were 1-3 on the power play.

Ohio State, as do several other teams in the WCHA, has a bye next weekend. The Buckeyes return to action against St. Cloud State at 8:05 p.m. EST Nov. 14th and 15th in St. Cloud, Minn.
