COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Ohio State women’s ice hockey team (10-20-2, 7-13-2 WCHA) fell to the No. 7 Wisconsin Badgers (20-6-5, 13-5-4 WCHA), 2-1, Saturday in front of a season-high crowd of 521 at OSU Ice Arena in Columbus, Ohio. Twelve of the Buckeyes’ games this season have been determined by one goal. OSU is 4-8-0 in one-goal games.

Despite outshooting Wisconsin 10-7 in the first period, Ohio State was unable to score. Wisconsin’s Steph Boeckmann scored the first goal of the game at 6:06. The Badgers scored their second goal on the power play at 19:03 by Kendra Antony.

Ohio State came back with a goal in the second stanza. OSU’s Jana Harrigan set up Jennifer Desson for the power-play goal at 1:31. Desson tallied her eighth goal of the season. The Buckeyes outshot the Badgers 9-5 in the period.

The Buckeyes battled the Badgers in the third. Ohio State had 13 shots on goal, but could not get the puck past Wisconsin’s goalie. With 35 seconds remaining, OSU pulled its goalie for a last attempt to tie.

Ohio State outshot Wisconsin 32-19. Ohio State held Wisconsin scoreless on 1-of-2 power-play opportunities. The Buckeyes were 1-for-5 on the power play.

Ohio State goalkeeper April Stojak (Sr., Kent, Ohio/Shattuck-St. Mary’s) recorded 17 saves in 59:25 minutes of play. Wisconsin’s Jackie MacMillan recorded 31 saves in 60:00 minutes.

Ohio State plays host to WCHA opponent Bemidji State at 7:05 p.m. Feb. 28 and at 4:05 pm March 1 at OSU Ice Arena in Columbus, Ohio. The series will mark OSU’s final regular season games before heading to the WCHA Final Five in Grand Forks, N.D.
