COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Ohio State women’s hockey team (1-4-1 overall, 1-2-1 WCHA) posted the first win of the program by defeating Western Collegiate Hockey Association rival Saint Cloud State (1-3 overall, 1-3 WCHA) at Saint Cloud, Minn.%^$

“I’m very pleased with the effort of our team,” head coach Jackie Barto said. “It’s a great feeling and a great confidence booster for our team to get the first win in the program’s history.”%^$

The Buckeyes’ offense attack was led by multiple-point performances from Shana Frost (Fr., Franford, Ont.), Corinne Rosen (Jr., Milwaukee, Wis.) and Lindsey Ogren (Fr., North Oaks, Minn.).%^$

The Buckeyes shot out to a 1-0 lead, 39 second into the game when Frost poked her first goal of the game into the upper left corner of the net off a cross from Rosen. The Huskies retaliated at 4:50 in the first when Kirsten Olson hit a shot that slid through the legs of OSU goalie April Stojak (Fr., Kent, Ohio). The Huskies added another goal late in the first to make the score, 2-1, heading into the second period.%^$

Halfway through the second, Ogren notched her first goal of the game off an assist from Rosen to tie the game at two. At 3:51 in the third period, Frost tapped the game-winning goal off an Ogren shot that bounced off the goalie. Ogren, Rosen and Mickenzie Stensland (Fr., Stillwater, Minn.) each added goals, giving OSU the four-point victory.%^$

“It was great to see so many players involved in scoring,” Barto said. “It was a total team effort in achieving this win.”%^$

With the win, the Buckeyes split their two-game series with the Huskies after a 3-2 overtime loss on Friday. OSU travels to Duluth, Minn. this weekend (Oct. 30-31) for a two-game series with WCHA foe Minnesota-Duluth.%^$
