COLUMBUS, Ohio – Junior Tiffanie Janke (Schaumburg, Ill.) and freshman Jill Weber (Bel Air, Md.) led the Ohio State women’s gymnastics team (3-2, 2-1 Big Ten) to a 195.175-193.450 victory over Illinois Saturday in Champaign, Ill. Weber placed first in the all-around with a score of 39.175. The Buckeyes defeated the Fighting Illini (4-4) in every event.
Janke led the Buckeyes on vault scoring a career-best 9.850. Weber posted a score of 9.800 while freshman Leah Boccaccio (Enfield, Conn.) scored a 9.625 in her first competition of the year.
Janke also guided the way for Ohio State in floor exercise with a score of 9.825. The Buckeyes outscored the Fighting Illini 48.875-48.200. Freshman Kaylin Schlecht (Marion, Ohio) and sophomore Elizabeth Meaney (Ashtabula, Ohio) both posted 9.800. Schelecht’s performance was a career-best.
Meaney and Janke led the way for the Buckeyes on beam, posting scores of 9.900 and 9.825, respectively. In addition Warner set a career-best posting a score of 9.775 while Weber tied her career-best with a score of 9.825.
Uneven bars were the closest event, but Ohio State managed to come out on top following a 9.875 career-best performance by Weber. Junior Megan Porter (Elmhurst, Ill.) and freshman Shelby Warner both posted scores of 9.775 securing Ohio State the win on bars 48.925-48.900.
Warner also complied an all-around score of 38.825.
The Buckeyes will be back in action at 7 p.m. Saturday Feb. 8 when they play host the Ball State Cardinals at St. John Arena. They will stay home to host Nebraska at 7 p.m. Friday Feb. 14.
