Buckeyes announce Columbus native will join Ohio State in fall
COLUMBUS, Ohio Carey Fagan, head coach of the Ohio State women’s gymnastics team, has announced newcomer Nicole Ciminello of Columbus, Ohio will join the 2008-09 Buckeye roster.
Ciminello joins Casey Williamson, Nicole Krauter, Krissi Woodward and Taylor Jones, who signed National Letters of Intent in November to compete for Ohio State next season.
Ciminello is a third-year Level 10 gymnast from Buckeye Gymnastics in Westerville, Ohio. This season, she finished second at the Level 10 state competition on bars, beam, floor and in the all-around. On beam, Ciminello placed first at the 2008 Buckeye Classic and second at the Region 5 regional championships. Ciminello was the 2007 state vault champion and was a seven-time regional qualifier.
“We are very excited to have Nicole join our program,” Fagan said. “We have watched Nicole develop throughout her high school career and she will undoubtedly have a positive impact on our program. Nicole has been actively involved in the community and has shown great leadership and maturity during her high school years. We had the opportunity to work with Nicole at our summer camp and we knew after that week that we wanted her to become a Buckeye. She is extremely hard working, coachable and a positive role model. “
Ciminello was named All-Ohio in 2006 and 2007 and was a three-time district all-around champion for St. Francis DeSales High School. She posted a school record of 9.625 on beam and was named Athlete of the Week’ by the Columbus Dispatch five times.
With a 4.214 grade-point average, Ciminello will join the Ohio State University honors program as a freshman. She was an active member of National Honor Society, Math Club, student council, track and a student ambassador for St. Francis Desales.
