COLUMBUS, Ohio– The No. 8 Ohio State women’s golf team opened with a first-round mark of 293 (+9) Friday at the Mercedes-Benz Championships. The Buckeyes, defending champions of the tournament, trail first-place Arkansas by four strokes. The event is being held at the par 71 Cherokee Country Club (5,932 yards) in Knoxville, Tenn.

Ohio State sophomore Dana Je (Orlando, Fla./Montverde Academy) paced the Buckeyes in the first round, posting a score of 71 (E). She is tied for fifth place on the individual leaderboard. Teammate Lindsay Knowlton (Sr., Toronto, Ontario/Havergal) tallied a round of 72 (+1) and is tied for ninth while rookie Carling Coffing (Middletown, Ohio/Middletown) is tied for 18th after a first-round mark of 74 (+3). Junior Erin Borowiec (South Lyon, Mich./Mercy), who is competing as an individual, shot a score of 73 (+2) and is tied for 13th place.

Kent State’s Gabby Wedding and Holly Cantwell, competing as an individual for Tennessee, lead the tournament with scores of 69 (-2) in the first round.
