COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Ohio State women’s golf team concluded the NCAA Championships on a positive note, posting its best round of the tournament, a 306, to finish in 22nd place with a score of 1,247. The event was held at the par-72 El Campeon Golf Course in Howey-in-the-Hills, Fla.

Ashley Lowery (Jr., West Lafayette, Ind./Harrison) led the Buckeyes Friday with an even-par 72. She finished the tournament with a 72nd-place 310. Allison Hanna (Fr., Portland, Ore./David Douglas) finished her stellar tournament with a round of 78 to end with a 304, leaving her in a team-best 49th place.

Mollie Fankhauser (So., Dublin, Ohio/Cols. School for Girls) fired a 76 – her best round of the tournament – to finish with a 315. Natalie Aber (Jr., Akron, Ohio/Springfield) carded an 80 Friday to finish with a 319, while Jennifer Borowiec (Fr., South Lyon, Mich./Mercy) recorded an 81 to conclude with a 330.

Georgia pulled off an improbable upset to win the team title, rallying from four strokes down after three rounds to slip past top-ranked Duke and capture its first national championship. Duke’s Candy Hannemann earned the individual title after topping Arizona’s Lorena Ochoa on the first playoff hole.

The tournament wraps up a successful season for Ohio State, including three tournament and four individual titles. The Buckeyes have no seniors on their roster this season and welcome a stellar crop of freshmen in for the 2001-02 campaign.
