DURHAM, N.C. – The women’s golf team qualified for the 1998 NCAA tournament with a fifth place showing at the NCAA East Regional Championship at the Duke Golf Club. The Buckeyes tied for fifth place with Florida, after posting a team total 911. Georgia freshman Reilley Rankin carded a final round 71 to capture the individual medalist honors with a three-under par 216 and helped her team take the team title with a final score of 882 (+6).

Leading the way for the Buckeyes were Lisa Strom (So., North Wales, Pa.), who shot a final round 75 to tie for six place and Bethany Overstake (Sr., Urbana, Ohio), who also played well to tie for 12th place with a total score of 224 (+5). Teammates Natalie Mosher (Jr., New Philadelphia, Ohio) and Marisa Wilhelm (Sr., Brookville, Ind.) both tied for 47th place (233) and Amber Amstutz (So., Leo, Ind.) finished 58th overall at 236.

Completing the top eight teams that will advance to the NCAA Championships in Madison, Wis., are Duke (890), Louisiana State (904), Indiana (904), Florida (911), North Carolina (911) and Auburn (916).

The NCAA Championship will begin on May 20-23 at the University Ridge Golf Course (par-72, 6033-yard) in Madison, Wis. The 19 five-person NCAA qualifying teams, 11 teams and two individuals from the West Regional and eight teams and two individuals from the East Regional, will play a total of four rounds.
