COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Ohio State women’s fencing team, in its first competition of the 1999 season, got off to an excellent start, winning eight of nine matches at the Northwestern Dual Meets on Saturday and Sunday in Evanston, Ill.%^$ %^$The women’s squad defeated Fairleigh Dickinson and James Madison on Saturday, and then returned Sunday to defeat Air Force, Hollins, North Carolina, Cal-State Fullerton, Chicago and host Northwestern. Ohio State’s lone defeat came at the hands of Temple after the Buckeyes lost a tiebraker due to the number of touches.%^$

%^$Junior Yelena Kalkina (Almaty, Kazakhstan) paced the Buckeyes with the most individual wins, while sophomore Fane Groes (Copenhagen, Denmark) was second on the squad in individual wins.%^$
