COLUMBUS, Ohio – Ohio State junior right-hander Alex Wimmers was named one of 25 finalists for the Dick Howser Trophy, the St. Petersburg Area Chamber of Commerce and the College Baseball Foundation announced Thursday.

Three finalists for the award, given to the top player in collegiate baseball, will be announced just prior to the first game of the College World Series with a press conference slated for Saturday, June 10, at 11 a.m.

The Cincinnati, Ohio native has won all nine of his starts this season while posting a 1.61 earned-run average and striking out 78 over 67.0 innings pitched. Wimmers, who suffered a hamstring injury prior to the Buckeyes’ April 30 game at Michigan, is expected to be back on the mound Friday evening against Minnesota. It will be his first game action in four weeks.
