COLUMBUS, Ohio – Alex Wimmers’ nine-strikeout performance in Friday’s win over North Florida in the Buckeyes’ season opener has earned the junior Big Ten Conference Pitcher of the Week honors for the fifth time in his career.

The preseason All-American earned the win against the Ospreys, going six scoreless innings while giving up just one hit and allowing just two balls out of the infield. He recorded gave up just one walk.

Wimmers, a 2010 member of the Golden Spikes award watch list given to the best college baseball player in country, earned four Big Ten Pitcher of the Week honors last season and the Buckeyes set a program record with nine weekly honors in 2009.
