COLUMBUS, Ohio – For the second time this preseason, the Ohio State battery of Alex Wimmers and Dan Burkhart garnered preseason All-American laurels, this time from Ping! Baseball.

Wimmers, coming off a 2009 campaign in which he posted a 9-2 record with a 3.27 earned run average and 136 strikeouts in 104.1 innings pitched, was named a first-team selection. The honor marks the third such award given to the junior right-hander and 2009 Big Ten co-Pitcher of the Year as he has been already named a preseason All-American by Collegiate Baseball Newspaper and the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA).

His longtime battery mate and 2009 Big Ten Player of the Year Burkhart earned second-team preseason All-American honors after batting .354 with 13 doubles, three triples, 10 home runs and 62 runs batted in last season. Burkhart was also named a second-team preseason All-American by the NCBWA last month.
