COLUMBUS, Ohio – Ohio State senior Ross Wilson (Toledo, Ohio/Toledo St. Francis de Sales) helped the Buckeyes improve to 4-0 in the Big Ten last weekend. Wilson helped earn victories over Purdue (7-0) and No. 5 Illinois (5-2) to earn Big Ten Player of the Week honors. The league victories propelled Ohio State (16-1, 4-0) to its highest national ranking in team history at No. 4 in the latest Intercollegiate Tennis Association poll (April 4).

Wilson won both his singles matches over the weekend. The first came last Saturday against Purdue’s Jarred Leibner 4-6, 6-0, 6-3 at No. 5 singles. Wilson then beat Illinois’ Marc Spicijaric 6-3, 6-3 to help the Buckeyes down the No. 5-ranked Illini Sunday.

Wilson teamed up with classmate Scott Green (North Canton, Ohio/Hoover) to win two matches at No. 1 doubles as well. Green and Wilson are currently ranked the No. 2 doubles team in the country. The duo is 21-2 on the year and 15-1 in dual competition. Green and Wilson beat Eric Hodgman and Kelubia Mabatah of Purdue 8-0 Saturday. The pair then disposed of Illinois’ No. 25 tandem of Ryler DeHeart and Ruben Gonzalez 8-3 Sunday.

This marks the first Big Ten honor in Wilson’s career. He is the second-consecutive Buckeye to claim the weekly award and the third overall this season. Junior Chris Klingemann (Bradenton, Fla./Texas Tech Independent) was the recipient last week. Freshman Steven Moneke (Alten-Buseck, Germany) earned the award March 8.

Ohio State travels to Indiana to take on the Hoosiers Friday, then heads to State College to take on the Nittany Lions of Penn State Sunday. The Buckeyes’ next home match is April 22 against Northwestern. All home matches are played at the Stickney Tennis Center.
