Buckeyes swept by Badgers with 7-0 loss
MADISON, Wis. The Ohio State women’s hockey team concluded a Western Collegiate Hockey Association series at No. 1 ranked Wisconsin with a 7-0 defeat Sunday at the Kohl Center in Madison, Wis.
The Buckeyes are 6-19-3 overall with a 4-16-2-2 record in the WCHA. The Badgers improved to 24-1-3 and 18-1-3-1 in the conference.
Wisconsin built a 2-0 lead in the first with goals in the opening and closing minutes of the period. Angie Keseley scored both and was set up by Erika Lawler and Hilary Knight both times.
Keseley got the Badgers on the board with a goal from the right side at 1:19. She then added a power play goal on a shot from the top of the slot at 19:30.
The Badgers added four more goals in the second period to up their lead to six goals. Malee Windmeier scored a 4-on-4 goal through traffic at 5:56, followed by a Kyla Sanders goal from the right hash marks at 11:51.
Knight tallied her third point of the game when she scored off a rebound at 17:11 and Jasmine Giles tacked on a shorthanded goal just a minute later.
In the third period, Meghan Duggan scored top-shelf at 11:18 for a final score of 7-0.
Keseley finished the game with five points (2g, 3a) to lead the Badgers. Lawler had four assists.
Overall, Ohio State was outshot 50-12 and was 0-of-5 on the power play. Wisconsin was 2-of-5 with the man-advantage.
Sophomore goaltender Deidre Facklis (1-4-1) started the game and made 25 saves in the first two periods. Senior Liana Bonanno patrolled the net in the third and had 18 saves.
After back-to-back road series, the Buckeyes return to Columbus to host North Dakota, Feb. 6-7. Games begin at 7 p.m. Friday and 4 p.m. Saturday at the OSU Ice Rink.
