Senior co-captain Hayley Klassen scores OSU goal in 12-1 loss
 
COLUMBUS, Ohio The Ohio State women’s hockey team fell to No. 2 Minnesota by a score of 12-1 as the Golden Gophers completed the sweep Saturday at the OSU Ice Rink. Minnesota scored four goals in each period as the Buckeyes recorded its largest defeat in team history.

Ohio State moves to 6-14-2 overall with a 4-11-1-1 mark in the Western Collegiate Hockey Association. Minnesota, who is on a 14-game win streak, is 19-2-1 and 14-1-1-1 in the conference.

Ohio State fell behind 4-0 in the opening 10 minutes of the game, with Minnesota twice capitalizing on power play opportunities. Monique Lamoureux got the Gophers on the board scoring top-shelf at 2:16. Chelsey Jones deflected in a goal just 38 seconds later.

Jocelyne Lamoureux followed with a slap shot from the left faceoff circle at 8:28 and Anne Schleper capped of the Minnesota scoring for the period at 10:11 with goal from just over the blue line.

The Buckeyes got on the board at 14:43 for a 4-1 score at the end of the first period. Sophomore defenseman Shannon Reilly kept the puck in the zone from along the boards and knocked it over to freshman forward Laura McIntosh in the slot. She tapped it up to senior co-captain Hayley Klassen who zipped a wrist shot into the back of the net for her eighth goal of the season.

Sophomore goalie Deidre Facklis entered the game 10:11 into the first period, relieving freshman Barbara Bilko, who made her first collegiate start after playing the first minutes of her career Friday night. Bilko finished with 12 saves.

The Gophers totaled eight goals in the next two periods, with six scored at even-strength, one power play and one shorthanded. A total of 12 Minnesota players finished with a point and eight of them had multi-point games, led by M. Lamoureux with a goal and three assists and Schleper with two goals and two assists.

In the second period, Brittany Francis scored at 2:30, followed by J. Lamoureux at 3:18, Schleper at 7:25 and Emily West at 15:35. The third period featured two goals apiece by Jen Schoullis and Kelli Blankenship.

Facklis patrolled the next for the final 49:49 and finished with 26 saves. Bilko registered the loss (0-1-0).

Minnesota had a 50-24 advantage in shots on goal and was 3-of-4 on the power play. Ohio State was 0-of-6 with the man-advantage.

The Buckeyes look to rebound next weekend against St. Cloud State in a WCHA series, Jan. 16-17. Games begin at 7 p.m. Friday and 2 p.m. Saturday at the OSU Ice Rink.
