After a full day of rain, Ohio State hopes to tee off Saturday in Athens, Ga.
COLUMBUS, Ohio The opening day of the Liz Murphey Collegiate Classic has been cancelled Friday because of inclement weather in the Athens, Ga., area. The Ohio State women’s golf team and 17 other teams are scheduled to play in the event.
This is the first round in the 37-year history of the Liz Murphey Collegiate Classic a complete round was cancelled. The officials ruled the course unplayable because of the continuous rain. The first round is scheduled to begin Saturday with a shotgun start at 9:30 a.m. Live scoring will be available on www.golfstat.com.
Weather has hindered the Buckeyes’ schedule this spring. Ohio State, ranked 28th in the latest Golfweek/Sagarin standings, has not played in a tournament since Feb. 16-17 at the Central District Invitational. The Pinehurst Challenge (March 2-3) was cancelled because of snow and cold conditions in Pinehurst, N.C.
