Freshmen lead Ohio State after first 18 holes

COLUMBUS, Ohio The Ohio State women’s golf team shot a team score of 318 (+34) on the first 18 holes of the three-day Northrop Grumman Regional Challenge in Palos Verdes, Calif. Hosted by the Buckeyes on the par 71, 5,912-yard Palos Verdes Golf Club, Ohio State currently sits in seventh place, just four strokes shy of breaking into the Top 3.
 
The 16-team field features talent from nine teams in the Top 20 of the Golfweek rankings. No. 1 Arizona State stands atop the leaderboard with an eight-stroke lead at 305 (+21).

Battling rain and 30-40 mph winds, the Buckeyes were lead by freshmen Victoria Villanueva and Nara Shin who tied for 14th after carding scores of 78 (+7). Villanueva recorded 10 pars, while Shin notched 12.
 
After round one, co-captains Emma Jandel and Gemma Webster are tied for 36th with scores of 81 (+10).

Also competing for the Buckeyes is sophomore In Hong Lim, who shot an 83 (+12) to sit in a tie for 54th place.

Competing as an individual, senior Jessica Hauser finished the round tied for seventh with a score of 5-over 76.

The three-day, 54-hole tournament will continue Tuesday with team beginning to tee off at 9 a.m. Live scoring for the tournament is available at www.golfstat.com.
