CINCINNATI, Ohio – Ohio State junior Daniel Wetterich fired a final round 71 and posted his second-straight top-5 finish as he tied for third at the Bearcat Invitational on Tuesday.
Wetterich enjoyed the best event of his career and it came in front of the hometown fans. He fired a career-low 63 on Monday afternoon and followed that with an ever-par 71 on Tuesday. The third place showing is also his best as a Buckeye. Through three events, Wetterich is averaging 69.3 and is a combined 16-under par.
Will Grimmer carded the best round of the day for the Buckeyes as he posted a 2-under 69. That vaulted him into a tie for 11th at 5-under par after rounds of 71-68 on Monday.
Justin Wick, playing in just his second career event, finished in a tie for 26th at 1-over par. Like Grimmer, he shot rounds of 71-68 on Monday and finished with a 75 on Tuesday. Caden Orewiler also carded a 75 on Tuesday and finished at 6-over for the event.
As a team, the Buckeyes carded a round of 285 on Monday, one round after shooting a 13-under 271. That put them at 13-under for the tournament and sixth in the 12-team field.
The three week stretch culminates this weekend at the Nike Golf Collegiate Invitational at the Pumpkin Ridge Golf Club in Portland, Ore. The first round is set for Sunday, Oct. 1.
