COLUMBUS, Ohio – Junior Katie Bell captured a national championship Saturday by winning the 10-meter platform event at the AT&T National Diving Championships at the Marcom Aquatic Center in Tallahassee, Fla.

Bell captured the national title by scoring 346.95 points to finish ahead of Casey Matthews of Purdue (315.05) and defending platform champion Michelle Cabassol (309.00).

The AT&T National Diving Championships is one of USA Diving’s most prestigious events. Approximately 125 of the nation’s best divers are in Tallahassee to compete for 10 national titles and begin their quest for the London 2012 Olympics.

“Going into this, I just really wanted to have fun and I was just really pumped.” Bell, from Columbus, said to a reporter from the Tallahassee Democrat. “I really wanted it and I dove a lot better than I have. I’m just so excited.”

The competition concludes today with finals in the women’s three-meter springboard event, men’s 10-meter platform and two synchronized diving events.
