COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Ohio State (27-3) women’s volleyball team continues play in the NCAA Division I Championship in Region 2, at 7 p.m. PST, Thursday at the University of Southern California. The Buckeyes will face the Trojans of Southern California (24-3) in the second of two regional semifinals. Arizona (23-4) plays Pacific (28-7) in the first match of the night at 5 p.m. PST.
The Buckeyes are playing in their 13th consecutive NCAA Tournament. This marks the ninth time that OSU has advanced to regional play. Ohio State won regionals in 1991 and 1994 before losing in the NCAA National Championship Semifinal. The Buckeyes have an 18-12 record in NCAA matches.
The Buckeyes, seeded 13th of 16 teams in the 64-team bracket, advanced to the regional with home wins over Robert Morris and Cincinnati. OSU defeated Robert Morris 3-0 (30-17, 30-16, 30-13) in the first round. The Buckeyes defeated Cincinnati 3-1 (30-16, 22-30, 30-27, 30-20) in the second round to earn the regional berth.
Southern California, seeded fourth in the championship, advanced to the regional with 3-0 wins over Liberty (30-18, 30-20, 30-14) in the first round and Duke (30-18, 30-19, 30-22) in the second round. Those matches were played at Durham, N.C.
Arizona, seeded fifth in the championship, advanced to the regional with a 3-0 (30-14, 30-14, 30-21) win over Eastern Illinois and a 3-1 (32-30, 30-26, 27-30, 30-20) win over Illinois in matches played in Champaign, Ill.
Pacific, seeded 12th in the championship, advanced to the regional with a 3-0 (30-18, 30-13, 30-16) win over Alabama A&M and a 3-1 (24-30, 30-26, 30-19, 30-22) win over Louisville in matches played in Louisville, Ky.
