Boren is a virtual lock to start once again at fullback with 18 career starts entering the season. Boren is a hard-nosed blocker with excellent hands out of the backfield. Last season he recorded 10 catches for 68 yards, including a 22-yard reception vs. Eastern Michigan and a 15-yard and leaping run in Indiana win.
Hall is an explosive, shifty runner who may contribute in a number of different ways in 2011. In addition to his experience as a running back, Hall also has returned kicks and punts the last two seasons and has been working some in the slot during fall camp. Last year he averaged 9.9 yards on punt returns (second in the Big Ten) and 27.94 yards on kick returns (16th in NCAA). He carried the ball 37 times for 161 yards and two TDs while also throwing a 20-yard pass for a score in the win over EMU (he also caught a TD from Joe Bausermanin that victory). Late in the season he ripped off a 70-yard punt return at Minnesota before taking a kickoff back 85 yards for a touchdown in second quarter of Michigan game.
Boren and Hall are just two names in a deep and talented backfield. Also vying for time with Dan Herron will be redshirt sophomore Jaamal Berry, sophomore Carlos Hyde and redshirt freshman Rod Smith. Fullback Adam Homan also is back to share the FB duties with Boren.
