COLUMBUS, Ohio – Ohio State senior Kristopher Kline (Westerville, Ohio/Hocking Valley Gymnastics Center) and former Buckeye Raj Bhasvar (2000-03) made the cut at the first night of competition at the USA Gymnastics 2006 VISA Championships Thursday evening at the Xcel Energy Center in St. Paul, Minn.

For the championships, the Top 36 gymnasts from the first round advance to the finals Friday. Bhasvar finished in 15th place and Kline placed 34th.

“It’s exciting for Kristopher (Kline) and Raj (Bhasvar),” Miles Avery, Ohio State head coach, said. “Now both are one step closer at a chance to make the national and world team.”

At the meet, Kline posted Top 25 finishes on all four of his events, including a ninth-place (tied) on vault (15.50). Bhasvar turned in two Top 10 performances earning a 14.60 and fifth-place finish on pommel horse and a 14.95 and sixth-place finish on parallel bars. In all four events in which he competed, Bhasvar landed in the Top 20.

Buckeye senior Nicholaus Searcy (Dublin, Ohio/Hocking Valley Gymnastics) also competed on parallel bars on the first day of the championships and earned a 14.150 good for 24th place, but did not advance to the championships finals.
