COLUMBUS, Ohio – Lilli Piper’s two home runs propelled the Ohio State softball team to a 11-2 victory over Dayton to start the fall season Friday night at Buckeye Field.

It was also a big night for Andi Farrah, who demolished a three-run homer in the sixth. It was her first home run as a Buckeye.

Dayton struck first to open the game on a wild pitch but the upper hand didn’t last long. The Scarlet and Gray’s offense came in hot with a three-spot in the bottom half. Bailee Sturgeon had a leadoff double and Niki Carver looped one of her own to tie score at 1-1. Next up, Piper tripled to center field for a tally and Ashley Goodwin’s RBI double pushed the lead to 3-1.

Piper extended the advantage to 5-1 in the bottom of the second on a two-out two-run homer over the center field fence.

Both teams tacked on runs in the fourth. The Flyers cut the deficit to 5-2 with a RBI single. Piper’s bat stayed hot for the Buckeyes as she lifted her second home run of the night over the left field wall.

Ohio State was stellar in the bottom of the sixth, putting up five runs on three hits and an error. Piper scored on a UD miscue at center field and Claire Nicholson’s single drove in a run. Farrah capped off the night with a three-run bomb to right field for the final 11-2 tally.

In the circle, starter Morgan Ray claimed the win after she gave up five hits and two runs with three strikeouts in three innings. Shelby McCombs’ three innings consisted of three hits and two strikeouts. Kat Duvall retired the side in order to wrap up the top of the seventh.

In addition, Megan McMenemy and Carver had a pair of doubles as the Buckeyes combined for 14 hits and 10 RBI.
