COLUMBUS, Ohio – Ohio State mens and womens track teams will travel to%^$Bloomington, Ind. May 15 to compete in the Billy Hayes Invitational. The%^$event will begin at 11:45 a.m. with the field events and is expected to%^$wrap up around 4:00 p.m. Just as in years past, there is expected to be%^$a wide range of schools and individuals in attendance for a final%^$tune-up before conference championships next week.%^$

%^$Although there was no team scoring at last years event, many current%^$Buckeyes fared well at 1998s Billy Hayes Invitational. Andrew Pierce%^$(So., Yellow Springs, Ohio) won the 400-meter dash with a time of 46.17.%^$Junior Dominque Calloway (Jr., Aurora, Colo.) also won an event, the%^$200-meter dash at a clip of 23.66. Calloway also finished third in the%^$100-meter hurdles.%^$

%^$Other current Buckeyes who placed at last years invitational were%^$junior David Gonzalez (Bolingbrook, Ill.) and Ian Connor (So.,%^$Lexington, Ohio) who placed second and sixth, respectably, in the%^$1,500-meter run.%^$

%^$For the women, Ayanna Reece (Sr., Bronx, N.Y.) finished fourth in the%^$400-meter hurdles while Ta-Meika Brown (Sr., Long Island City, N.Y.) was%^$fourth in the 800-meter run. Karen Keys (Jr., Carrington, N.D.) fared%^$well in the field events, finishing seventh in the shot put, eighth in%^$the discus throw, and 12th in the hammer throw.%^$

%^$The threesome of Andrew Pierce, Donica Merriman and Dominque Calloway%^$won two events each May 9 in Ann Arbor, Mich. Pierce was victorious in%^$the 200- and 400-meter dashes, while Merriman won the 100- and 200-meter%^$dashes. Calloway set the standard in the 100- and 400-meter hurdles. Two%^$womens relay teams, the 4×400 and the 4×1600, also won Sunday for the%^$Buckeyes. %^$

%^$This weekends meet marks the final regular season event before the Big%^$Ten Outdoor Track and Field Championships May 21-23 in West Lafayette,%^$Ind., hosted by Purdue University.%^$

%^$Several Ohio State athletes are competing for berths in three postseason%^$meets: the NCAA Championships, the United States Track and Field%^$Championships, and the United States Track and Field Junior%^$Championships. The NCAA Championships will occur at Boise State%^$University in Boise, Idaho June 2-5. Meanwhile, the United States Track%^$and Field Championships will take place at the University of Oregon in%^$Eugene, Ore. June 18-19. A site has not yet been announced for the%^$Junior Championships.%^$
