COLUMBUS, Ohio – Ohio State senior Mikael Torpegaard has been named the Big Ten Men’s Tennis Athlete of the Week for the second-straight week after helping lead the Buckeyes to a win at No. 17 Notre Dame on Sunday.
Torpegaard started the match by clinching the doubles point with partner Martin Joyce as they defeated the No. 28 team of Brendon Kempin and Tristan McCormick at No. 1 doubles. He then claimed 7-5, 7-6(4) victory over No. 35 Alex Lebedev at No. 1 singles. That was also the match clinching victory for the Buckeyes.
On the year, Torpegaard is 12-2 overall and has eight wins over ranked singles opponents. He is currently the No. 2 ranked player in the country. This is Torpegaard’s ninth Athlete of the Week award of his career.
