COLUMBUS, Ohio – Ohio State’s Mikael Torpegaard and Martin Joyce have been named 2018 ITA Doubles All-Americans following their run to the national championship match.
Torpegaard and Joyce are the ninth Buckeye doubles team to earn the prestigious honor. For Torpegaard, this was his second doubles All-America honor as he also earned the award last year with Herkko Pollanen. In total, the Denmark native was a five-time All-American. Joyce earns the first All-America honor of his career.
The duo began the year ranked No. 13 and appeared in every doubles rankings all season. They rose to as high as No. 7 in early March after knocking-off the No. 5 team in the country on two different occasions as well as the No. 28 team in a span of three weeks. They then split for the remainder of the team season and helped lead the Buckeyes to the national championship match.
Torpegaard and Joyce then entered the NCAA Doubles Championship ranked No. 25 and was in need of two victories to earn All-America status. They would do that and then some as they made a run all the way to the championship match before finishing runner-up.
On the year, the duo was 12-4 with eight their 12 victories coming over ranked opponents. They were just the second Buckeye pair to reach the final match.
