COLUMBUS, Ohio — Three Buckeyes were recognized by the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) on Monday as Nicolas Szerszen (First Team), Maxime Hervoir (Second Team) and Sanil Thomas (Honorable Mention) received All-America laurels. The AVCA has been selecting Division I-II Men’s All-America Teams annually for the last 28 years.

Nineteen different Buckeyes have now corralled a total of 34 AVCA All-America awards since 1998, including three consecutive First Team honors for Szerszen. This also marks the fourth straight season in which at least three Buckeyes picked up All-America distinction (2015-18).

Szerszen ranks Top-15 nationally in aces (.59/set; 3rd), points (4.53/set; 10th), attack percentage (.383; 11th) and kills (3.72/set; 14th). He is also a superb defensive player in the back court, averaging 2.16 digs per set (ranks 25th in the NCAA). Szerszen becomes the only Buckeye to ever register First Team laurels three times.

Hervoir ranks Top-25 nationally with a .326 hitting percentage and nabbed First Team All-MIVA accolades. He enters Tuesday’s (May 1) NCAA Tournament clash against UC Irvine with 340 kills, 153 digs and 48 blocks this season.

Thomas paces the entire country averaging 11.22 assists per set while steering the Buckeye offense to a .345 team attack percentage (third best in the NCAA). The All-MIVA First Team selection has tallied 57 points on his own, including 30 aces. He also ranks third on the squad with 198 digs.
