Third Straight Conference Award Goes to Miles Johnson

Feb. 14, 2017

COLUMBUS, Ohio – For the third time in as many weeks, Miles Johnson was named the Midwestern Intercollegiate Volleyball Association’s Offensive Player of the Week on Tuesday (Feb. 14). Johnson carried the offensive load in a pair of Top-10 wins last week, attacking .611 against Lewis and Loyola to secure sole possession of first place in the MIVA standings at 4-0.

The Buckeye senior connected on 5.29 kills per set and averaged 5.50 points. He opened the week by blasting 19 kills at a .593 clip vs. No. 6 Lewis before posting a .630 efficiency and 6.00 kills/set average over No. 10 Loyola.

Johnson is the first conference player to win three consecutive MIVA Player of the Week awards in six years as fellow Buckeye Shawn Sangrey accomplished the feat most recently on Feb. 22, Feb. 28 and March 7, 2011.

Ohio has captured the league’s offensive player of the week accolade in four of seven weeks thus far this season. In one of the ‘off’ weeks, Gabriel Domecus ensured the Buckeyes would still be represented, picking up MIVA Defensive Player of the Week laurels.
