COLUMBUS, Ohio – Following their 10-7 victory over Rutgers to finish the regular season, two Ohio State men’s lacrosse players earned Big Ten weekly honors, the conference office announced today. Ryan Terefenko is the league’s Defensive Player of the Week while face-off specialist Justin Inacio took home Freshman of the Week honors.
Terefenko scooped up a game-high eight ground balls while adding a pair of assists to help the Buckeyes win their third straight to close out the regular season. On the defensive end of the field, he helped Ohio State keep Rutgers to four goals below their season average. Offensively, Terefenko handed out a pair of assists – the first coming on the opening score of the game in the first quarter and the second during a four-goal run in the third quarter.
Inacio was dominant in the face-off X, winning 18 of 21 draws, including the first 13 to start the game. He also had five ground balls. Over the last three weeks, the freshman from Oakville, Ontario is 45-of-61 (.738) and currently leads all freshmen face-off specialist with a .601 winning percentage for the year.
As a result of their win over the Scarlet Knights, Ohio State qualified for the 2018 Big Ten Tournament and will be the No. 3 seed. It faces second-seeded Johns Hopkins on Thursday in the semifinals at 7:30 p.m. on BTN.
