Columbus, Ohio – Marscilla Packer, a junior shooting guard for the Ohio State women’s basketball team, scored 12 points in Team USA’s 114-23 victory over the Bahamas Friday at the FIBA Americas U20 Championship for Women in Mexico City, Mexico. Team USA’s leading scorer through the four contests, Packer went a perfect 4-for-4 from 3-point land in the win.
Packer’s (Pickerington, Ohio) perfect mark from long range Friday upped her 3-point clip to 74 percent during the four games. The Big Ten’s 3-point leader in 2006 has netted 17-of-23 3-point attempts so far for the American squad and leads Team USA in scoring at 14 points per contest. Friday, she also dished a team-best five assists against the Bahamas.
The U.S. squad took a decisive 35-2 lead after the first quarter and cruised to the win, holding the Bahamas to just seven field goals in 28 attempts. The U.S. also had a 19-4 advantage in rebounds. Overall, the Americans made 46-of-66 field goal attempts for a 70 percent rate.
Team USA faces a stiff test in its next contest against a 3-0 Brazil team at 5 p.m. (EDT) Saturday.
