Columbus, Ohio— Taylor Vargo has been named CollegeSwimming’s Big Ten Swimmer of the Week after her excellent weekend of competition at the Ohio State Invitational.
Vargo swam in four events at the Invite, though her weekend was highlighted by sweeping both breaststroke events. The senior won both races in impressive fashion, besting her prelim mark both times and coming from behind down the stretch to overtake her opponent. In the finals of the 100 breaststroke on Saturday she posted a time of 59.86, and in the 200 breaststroke finals on Sunday she touched the wall at 2:09.43.
With her performances, Vargo now ranks in the Top 10 nationally in both events. She currently sits seventh in the NCAA in the 100 breaststroke and eighth in the 200.
In her two other events, the Sandusky native put up a time of 2:01.60 in the 200 IM and contributed to a 3:36.02 400 medley relay time.
Vargo and the rest of the Buckeyes return to McCorkle Aquatic Pavilion on Jan. 4 for a dual meet with the Toledo Rockets.
